Udawalawe National Park

Afternoon Safari

Warm light, longer shadows, and herds drifting back toward the water before the gate closes.

From $57 per person

  • 2:00 – 6:00
  • About 4 hours
  • Private jeep
  • Park fees included

The afternoon is the right drive if you arrive in Udawalawe at lunchtime, or if you want a second look after a morning in the park. The light is the advantage: low sun on the grass, and elephants that walk rather than stand in deep shade.

We start so that you are inside before the last useful hour, and we leave with the gate. It is a full half-day, not a short loop.

This is a wild-park drive. Elephants are the reason most people come to Udawalawe, and they are still not a promise. Buffalo, deer, crocodile, and birds are part of an ordinary morning.
